Why Online Counseling?
Frequently Asked Questions
How can online counseling be helpful for me?
Depending on what your needs are, counseling may range from a few brief interactions in a short period of time, to numerous interactions over an extended period of time. The flexibility of sessions is what clients enjoy because one can still take care of their mental health needs when they are unable to leave home or unable to get out of the office. Clients have also used online sessions if they happen to live a distance from our office and cannot make it in person. Clients have also used this service if they are away at a Michigan college and their class schedule or distance makes it difficult to get to our office.
Is it a secure online system?
Yes, it is a secure online system called thera-LINK. It is HIPAA compliant so your informationis kept private. For more information, you can click on this link --- HIPAA document
When should someone not choose online counseling?
You should not utilize online counseling if you are looking for medications. Our therapists are not psychiatrists and medication evaluations should be done in person.
You should not utilize online counseling if you are a danger to yourself or others. For the safety of the client and others, referrals would be made so that you could get the best, most effective level of care.
You should not utilize online counseling if you are experiencing psychotic symptoms (hallucinations, delusions, thought disorganization).
If you are under the age of 18, you can utilize this service only after we receive a signed parental consent form from a parent with custodial rights to medical treatment
Are the fees the same as if I were to come in the office?
No. Sessions when you meet with someone online are $75.00 a session if you are paying out of pocket. You would submit your payment via a valid credit card through the thera-LINK system. Not all insurance companies cover online counseling services so you will need to check with your insurance company to see if these services can be billed to them. You will need to check to see if there are applicable copays and/or deductibles to be met.
